This has nothing to do with books but it’s something I care about deeply. We got our official Monarch Waystation certificate in the mail and I was too excited not to post about it. We started raising monarchs two years ago when I was sad that their population was taking a huge hit. My spouse has an insane green thumb so he decided to do something. We grew milkweed and the project has grown from there. We keep the eggs housed in a net and swap in fresh milkweed so they can eat in peace away from predators. It’s been a crazy ride and I love this part of my life. We’ve released over 250 this year. Swipe through the pics to see all the eaten plants and the little ones ready to hatch! I hope you enjoy it. This essay collection is a master class in how to write about things ranging from the internet, cultural zeitgeist, drugs, and feminism. Talentino takes several topics, researches them tirelessly, and then finally looks through the information with a magnifying glass begging the reader to take a closer look. A lot of these essays made me uncomfortable because I also looked in the mirror and saw myself in so many of these pages. For better or for worse, we all have something to learn here.

This is a fantastic essay collection and one I can see being taught in colleges across the country. Hey #welovemglit look what came in the mail today!

I’m so excited for @naturemamareads and @andreabeatrizarango Middle Grade Lit Book Club. As a fourth grade teacher I try to read as much MG Lit as I can so I can talk to my students about the books I have in my library.

It’s also a huge goal for me to be more intentional about which books I buy for my classroom library this coming year and the years to come.

I’m excited to read this one because my students always love talking about the legend of La Llorona. Once I asked students what super power they would want the most and one girl said to breathe underwater so she could defeat La Llorona.

Dark I know, but she has quite the sense of humor! I miss that class….Once we’re back in the classroom I’m sure this book will be well loved! I can’t wait to dig in! What MG lit have you read?

Naming one single book that drew me to reading is impossible. But I originally joined #bookstagram about a month ago to find more people like me. My friends and family were probably starting to get annoyed by my constant hounding of “HAVE YOU READ THIS YET!!?” ⠀

Finally I joined it bc I was in search for stories about people like me, and reader, I not only found stories I also found other people. Thanks to all who have been so welcoming to me on my journey to find myself within pages. ⠀

There are some things that bother me about #bookstagram. One is that it can be really capitalistic. It can be hard to keep your wallet in check when you’re constantly trying to buy the best new book. But I feel like buying #ownvoices and from independent bookstores helps combat this. And also of course the #library ⠀

I miss the library so much. I would take my son every Sunday after his nap to browse the stacks. And then we would go to the park next door. Those simple activities are what I miss the most. ⠀

Hey #bookstagram it is imperative we all do what we can to save the USPS. They have been under attack for decades and now the dummy in charge is looking to further defund them. Call both your senators and demand action to save the USPS. This is a direct attack on our democracy as voting by mail is going to be ESSENTIAL this year to keep people safe. Also, I know MANY of us buy our books from independent bookstores and borrow from libraries, and they rely on the USPS to send us our books or get new ones. Saving the USPS saves them. So please please call your Senators and demand they take action.
