The Library Book by Susan Orlean is a love letter to Los Angeles and all libraries. Reading this made me think I chose the wrong career. Haha. I learned so much about LA reading this and I found it quite fascinating. ⠀

In all seriousness though, as an educator I do feel a kinship with librarians across the nation. We work in a field that is constantly under-funded, under resourced, and under appreciated by the people in power. Libraries, like schools, are also essential for any functioning democracy, hence the reason they are constantly under attack. ⠀

Right now, like every other industry, libraries are hurting and need the federal government to step in and provide some relief. They mostly get their funds from local government taxes, but we all know how this year is probably going to pan out. ⠀

Hi everyone! Thought I’d share a few things about myself for all my new followers. ⠀

I started a #bookstagram because I simply love books and have been looking for more bookish people to talk to. Since joining my #TBR has gotten a little out of control. ?⠀

I’m a mom to a two year old and I live in Southern California with my partner, two dogs, bearded dragon, and one fish. We also harvest Monarch Butterflies to help regrow their population. I’ve been teaching fourth grade for five years, going on six. ⠀

Science fiction/fantasy is my love but I’ll read from just about any genre. I do prioritize #ownvoices bc I feel passionate about decolonizing education and creating an equitable future for all children. ⠀
